I work at the intersection of geography and landscape architecture. I am interested the everyday manifestations of urban space; especially the ephemeral cultural processes that morph the urban landscape. In other words, I study how urban space is transformed for other uses than how it was originally designed and planned to perform. Most of the work I do as a geographer examines the role food plays in shaping social practices and the built environment, or what I like to call food-scapes. As a designer, I use geographic theory and studies to explain uses of urban space and then incorporate them into considerate design research.
